Specimen Technician

Overview

The Specimen Technician supports general functions within the Specimen Processing Department.

• The role requires strong data entry skills and the ability to perform tasks such as presort, specimen pickup and delivery, imaging, centrifugation, and aliquoting.
• Work must be completed accurately, confidently, and in a timely manner.
• The position requires strong organizational skills, knowledge of specimen types, and the ability to understand compliance regulations. Flexibility is essential due to frequent changes.
• The environment is production-focused with specific productivity and quality standards.

• Ability to enter high-volume alphanumeric keystrokes.
• Ability to work in a biohazard environment while following safety practices.
• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
• Effective communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain a positive work environment
• Ability to adapt to frequent changes.
• Ability to keep work area organized and clean.
• Basic understanding of computers.

• No experience required.
• Previous laboratory or hospital laboratory experience preferred.
• Medical background and medical terminology knowledge preferred.
• Previous production environment experience preferred.

• Perform specimen processing tasks including presort, imaging, centrifugation, and aliquoting.
• Pick up and deliver processed specimens to the laboratory.
• Maintain accuracy and timeliness in all tasks.
• Follow compliance regulations related to test ordering.
• Communicate effectively with staff at all levels.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Follow all safety and compliance policies and procedures.

• Knowledge of laboratory testing or specimen processing.

• High-volume data entry.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
