Medical Assistants are essential members of the clinic team. They contribute to the healthcare of patients by assisting with exams and procedures, organizing and managing patient flow, and performing other responsibilities based on departmental needs.

• Assist patients with ambulation and/or movement on/off exam tables, chairs, and wheelchairs using proper body mechanics and safety equipment.
• After patient identification, perform initial screening (vital signs, screening questions, allergy information, medication history) and notify staff of any abnormalities.
• Assist practitioners with patient procedures, including room prep, positioning, and supply management.
• Maintain knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care and use computerized systems as needed.
• Support providers during clinic by handling phone calls and faxes.
• Recognize emergency situations and implement emergency procedures, including administering first aid and CPR.

• Prior experience as a Medical Assistant in an outpatient clinic setting.
• Prior experience performing phlebotomy.

• High school diploma or GED, required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, required.
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification, required (or CMA within 6 months for trainee).
• 2 years of Medical Assistant experience (for Certified Medical Assistant II level).
• Accepted additional certifications: AMAA, AMT, NCCT – Nationally Certified Medical Assistant, NHA – Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), NAHP – Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant.
• Accepted BLS providers:
  American Heart Association, American Red Cross, American Safety & Health Institute.
