The Medical Laboratory Scientist II performs various laboratory procedures in assigned areas as licensed/certified. Work customarily involves analytical testing of blood and/or human biological specimens. Analytical laboratory testing generally requires a moderate to high degree of theoretical and practical knowledge and expertise in licensed area(s). Depending on campus and department, various pre-and post-analytical work processes are included in the work duties customarily performed;
on-call hours may also be required. Follows laboratory policies and procedures; maintains quality control practices in the Laboratory. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
The Medical Laboratory Scientist II conducts a variety of laboratory procedures in designated areas as licensed or certified. This role entails the analytical testing of blood and/or human biological specimens, requiring a moderate to high degree of both theoretical and practical knowledge and expertise in the certified area(s). Laboratory testing encompasses complex diagnostic and analytic assessments of specimens, including interpreting data with precision and accuracy according to established policies and procedures.
Duties customarily involve a range of pre- and post-analytical work processes depending on the campus and department and may also require participation in on-call rotations.
Professionals in this position are responsible for adhering to laboratory policies and procedures while maintaining quality control practices. This role may also involve managing selected aspects of laboratory processes or shifts, which could include workflow management, quality control processes, performance improvement activities, training of new employees, advanced problem-solving for customers and coworkers, and maintenance and upgrades of department equipment or computer systems.
Additionally, writing or reviewing procedures and assisting lab leadership in meeting goals across various areas such as Team, Service, Clinical, Market, and Finance may be required.
A strong commitment to outstanding customer service is essential, with an emphasis on maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
