Job Description

The Student Success division at the University of South Florida, is comprised of 60 departments, providing students with academic support, engagement opportunities, health & wellness services and enhancement of the educational experience.

The Counseling Center is a critical component of Student Success at the University of South Florida, located in beautiful Tampa Bay on Florida's spectacular west coast.

The Counseling Center strives to support the mental health and well-being of the 44,000 enrolled graduate and undergraduate students at the USF Tampa campus. Through the provision of high quality clinical services and evidenced-based practice, innovative outreach, consultation, and education, the Counseling Center is recognized and valued for its contribution to the success of an exceptionally diverse student body. The Counseling Center, with a dedicated, energetic, and motivated team of 30 multidisciplinary professionals including licensed psychologists, licensed mental health counselors, licensed clinical social workers, licensed marriage and family therapists, and administrative support personnel is accredited by IACS and has an APA-accredited doctoral internship and APPIC affiliated post-doctoral fellowships.

The Counseling Center is committed to a team approach to client care across all staff. With a thriving group therapy program, interdisciplinary training programs, embedded clinicians, and ongoing consultation opportunities, the Counseling Center is seeking psychologists with a commitment to excellence, culturally responsive care, and who would enhance the diversity and resources of our staff.

Psychologists directly serve the USF community through the ethical practice of culturally responsive, theoretically grounded, and evidenced-based individual and group therapies, crisis intervention, and mental health consultation and prevention activities. Additionally, this position has the opportunity to be highly involved in providing training and supervision for the Center's training programs. Psychologists establish designated liaisons with strategic campus partners consistent with their training and expertise, may serve as coordinators of specific program areas, and conduct program evaluation/research.

Psychologists participate in the development of Center policy and programs and represent the Center to the USF community and at local, state, and national professional forums. Considered essential staff, this position is responsive to the mental health needs of students during and following critical events such as severe weather incidents or campus emergencies.

Special Skills or Training:
Psychologists are expected to be knowledgeable of culturally responsive approaches to mental health treatment, and skilled in treating common presenting concerns of college-age students including anxiety, depression, substance misuse, eating disorders, and interpersonal trauma, with evidenced-based interventions.

Responsibilities
  • 50%:
    Provides psychotherapy for individuals, groups, and intimate partners, presenting with a range of psychological concerns.
  • 15%:
    Assesses presenting concerns through the Center's intake and assessment process. Provides crisis intervention at primary, secondary, and tertiary levels, including involuntary hospitalization, USF community consultation, and post-incident debriefing
  • 10%:
    Attends Counseling Center meetings, serves on Counseling Center, divisional or University committees and in regional, state, and national organizations, as assigned. Responsibilities may include special assignments as determined by the Leadership Team, including committee tasks, clinical supervision, embedded services, coordination of specialized clinical service programs, or program outcome evaluation/research.
  • 10%:
    Supervises the clinical, academic, and research experiences of post-doctoral fellows, doctoral level clinical and counseling psychology interns, and practicum students enrolled in mental health academic training programs (e.g., clinical psychology, counseling psychology, social work, mental health counseling, school psychology).
  • 10%:
    Participates in Counseling Center sponsored outreach and consultation programming for the university community. Develops and participates in psycho educational presentations, as assigned, for all USF students. Establishes a consultative liaison relationship with a strategic campus partner.
  • 5%:
    Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Candidates must possess an earned doctorate in applied health sciences (e.g., clinical psychology, counseling psychology, marriage and family therapy) from an accredited program which includes an accredited internship (or equivalent as determined by the Florida Board of Psychology) in professional psychology. Licensure or license-eligible in the State of Florida. Date by which licensure is expected will be determined as part of the hiring process.
