Assistant Controller

Job Overview

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to join our client in the Tampa area. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the month-end close process, internal accounting procedures and controls, and support strategic planning. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of financial reporting and compliance regulations.

• Manage a team of 5+ employees within the accounting department.
• Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
• Handle basic accounting processes and procedures.
• Design, implement, and maintain internal financial controls.
• Ability to decipher large amounts of transactional data.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, IFRS, or other relevant accounting standards.
• Handle multi-state sales and use tax filings, ERP tax system maintenance, and potential tax software implementation.
• Support audits, compliance reporting, and process improvements while collaborating cross-functionally with branch and corporate teams.

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
• 7-10 years of experience in corporate accounting with supervisory experience.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, macros).
• Experience with software such as Great Plains, Quick Books, or similar.
• Strong fundamental and hands on capability.
• Ability to communicate across multiple departments both verbally and written.
• Detail-oriented with a strong ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
• Knowledge of automation and system upgrades or implementations (e.g., ERP systems).

• 5 days onsite in Tampa, FL
