Lead Roadway Engineer

WSP is currently initiating a search for a motivated Lead Roadway Engineer for our Florida Transportation Team!

This position will sit out of our Tampa, FL office.

The WSP Tampa office serves clients from around the state of Florida on a wide variety of projects ranging from Major Interstate Reconstruction, Arterial Capacity Improvements, Intersection and Safety Improvement, Innovative Intersections, and Resurfacing Contracts. The selected candidate will work with FDOT and local municipal agencies on a variety of projects on a regular basis. Existing relationships and experience with FDOT are beneficial.

The Lead Roadway Highway Engineer should have experience in leading the design of highways, roadway geometric design, roadway plan production, multidiscipline coordination, and TCP considerations on traditional and/or alternative delivery projects. This position may function as the lead engineer for FDOT projects and local agency / municipal clients. Responsibilities may also include project management, contributing on pursuits, maintaining client relationships, design and QA/QC.

This role will be a key contributor in managing daily activities of our Civil/Highway group.

• Assist in leading and continuing development of the Civil/Highway design team.
• Providing guidance and mentoring of staff and direct work assignments.
• Collaborating with leadership to determine long-range plans and objectives, including recommendations on project staffing.
• Lead project tasks for conceptual and preliminary engineering and final design activities, as well as development of construction plans, calculations and specifications.
• Coordinate with other design disciplines such as structures, drainage, traffic, and utilities, etc.
• Participate hands-on in the preparation of Plans, Specifications and Estimates (PS&E).
• Review, monitor and/or develop complex layouts, sketches, plans, specifications and estimates standards and guidelines, correspondence, and/or prepare reports.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

• Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.
• 7+ years of experience in large transportation and infrastructure projects.
• Professional Engineering License in FL or ability to obtain in six months.
• Significant experience leading design teams on FDOT and municipal projects (highway, roadway geometric design, roadway plan production, and drainage design).
• Developing skills in project and staff management experience on civil transportation projects.
• Experience with daily mentoring of junior staff.
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

• Experience on Alternative Delivery projects.
• Experience with large transportation design build projects.
• Master's degree in Civil Engineering or relevant field.
