Position Overview

The Geotechnical Driller is responsible for performing a variety of drilling activities to obtain boring samples. Examples include soil drilling, rock coring, sampling, classifications, in‑situ testing and monitoring well installation.

What You'll Do
  • Perform various drilling activities to obtain boring samples, including soil drilling, rock coring, sampling, classifications, in‑situ testing, and monitoring well installation.
  • Investigate subsurface conditions.
  • Evaluate sites for drill rig access requirements.
  • Work in office laboratories and the field.
  • Recognize and identify soil and rock types and material classifications.
  • Operate drilling equipment at shallow to moderate depths.
  • Identify and locate utilities and other site safety concerns.
  • Manage drill rig transportation.
  • Communicate with project teams.
  • Maintain a record log of drilling activities.
  • Direct site inquiries from the general public to the project team.
  • Identify and coordinate daily work schedules at the job site.
  • Load and unload augers, drill rods and other drilling equipment.
  • Prepare tooling and supplies for the day's tasks.
  • Assemble and disassemble augers/drill rods.
  • Assist with the location of borings.
  • Retrieve and log samples.
  • Clean and maintain equipment.
  • Perform site clean‑up.
  • Adhere to safety practices and policies to ensure your own safety and the safety of others affected by your work.

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications
  • 2 years of geotechnical drilling experience required, including mud rotary drilling.
  • May require a state or local drilling license.
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively in verbal and written communication.
  • Requires basic math skills.
  • Ability to receive work instructions and follow tasks.
  • Must be able to work off‑shifts and overtime.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record (required).
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, move, push, and pull up to 50 pounds frequently; occasionally over 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and discern sounds.
  • Ability to kneel and squat occasionally.
  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (hot and cold).
  • Ability to climb occasionally.
