Location and Travel: This position will require local site visits and occasional regional site visits, up to 50% total travel. The successful candidate can be in the Raleigh, NC area OR Pensacola, FL area.
Job SummaryOur Private Sector Enterprise has an immediate opening for a full‑time entry‑level scientist or engineer to join our Compliance and Permitting team. We are seeking a motivated, achievement‑oriented individual who can help us fulfill our commitment to deliver client success on each and every project. The successful candidate will be mentored by nationally recognized, senior technical staff.
Responsibilities- Conduct Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments and report writing.
- Assist with environmental studies, permitting, and compliance reviews.
- Conduct regulatory research.
- Perform technical writing of permitting documents and project delivery.
- Collect field data and audit/document field activities.
- Communicate environmental requirements directly to the project team and/or client.
- Perform data collection and documentation related to site investigation (soil and groundwater) and site inspections.
- Perform project site visits outside the office, including commercial and industrial facilities.
- Assist with the preparation of technical memoranda and reports related to compliance and permitting.
- Work independently and with teams to complete assignments using virtual platforms.
- Be willing to travel to support regional and national client teams.
- Interact and communicate directly with clients on behalf of Brown and Caldwell.
- B.S. Degree in Engineering (Civil, Environmental, Chemical, Materials Science) or B.S. Degree in Science (Environmental Science, Geology, Chemistry, Biology) or related field such as Industrial Hygiene.
- 0–5 years of experience.
- Proficiency in Excel, Word and basic computer skills.
- Basic GIS skills a plus.
- Permitting and compliance experience preferred with knowledge of local, state and federal environmental regulations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organization and attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a team environment and manage multiple tasks.
- Self‑starter, results‑oriented, able to work under tight deadlines.
- Current driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Willing to travel up to 25% of the time.
- HazWOPER certification a plus.
- Willing to work occasional overtime or off‑hours as needed.
- Ability to work in extreme temperatures and maintain safety equipment.
- Ability to stand for several hours and walk promptly to clear hazards.
- Ability to operate a BC Pickup Truck for site commutes.
- Ability to remain alert while working around equipment and walk swiftly to clear potential hazards.
The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee’s primary work location and may be modified in the future.
Location A: $58,000 – $79,000.
