Position Concept:

The CCS reports to the Superintendent of Generation and is responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of plant equipment and systems. Duties include monitoring, observing, and maintaining conditions that affect the safe and reliable operation of the plant, compliance with NERC standards, environmental permits, water management guidance, and teamwork assignments. Physical requirements for emergency response team participation must be met.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensure safe work practices and station safety programs are followed.
  • Complete all required training and assessments on time.
  • Participate in emergency response training (confined space rescue, hazmat, incipient fire, first aid/CPR).
  • Perform operating duties in Power Block, Steam Plant, Rover, and Control Room including accurate rounds, turnovers, HEC procedures, unit start‑ups/shut‑downs, minor repairs, and work order completion.
  • Execute maintenance assignments at a journeyman level in the core craft and assist other CCS’s as needed.
  • Support Continuous Improvement opportunities (area ownership, 3‑way communication, electronic logs, enhanced rounds).
  • Maintain open communication with peers, support staff, and management.
  • Communicate equipment problems, system restrictions, return‑to‑service delays, and reliability issues to Energy Control Center personnel and engineering staff.
  • Complete turnover logs, unusual incident reports, accident reports, environmental incident reports, CEM malfunction documentation, and capability reports.
  • Respond to emergencies (personnel injuries, fires, ammonia release, bomb threats) and notify the appropriate personnel.
  • Apply HEC (LO/TO) procedures, confined space requirements, burn permit requirements, process hazard information, and relevant plant safety practices.
  • Demonstrate good housekeeping practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education, Licenses and

Certifications:

Required: Valid High School Diploma or GED.
Preferred: Two‑year technical degree or bachelor’s degree in an accredited institution related to electrical generation equipment and maintenance.

Experience:

Required: Minimum of four (4) years of related journeyman level work experience in a large industrial complex maintaining and troubleshooting electrical equipment, including preventative, predictive, and repair maintenance. Experience operating industrial equipment such as forklifts, overhead cranes, golf carts, and trucks.
Preferred: Two‑year technical degree or bachelor’s degree in an accredited institution, utility power plant, process industry, or petrochemical plant experience.

  • Ability to hear speech, over radio, face‑to‑face, and alarms.
  • Vision of at least 20/30 in one eye and 20/50 in the other.
  • Climb and descend fixed ladders and up to twenty flights of stairs with sufficient balance and coordination.
  • Sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds and carry up to 20 pounds.
  • Wear a variety of respiratory devices (half‑face, full‑face, SCBA, supplied air respirator).
  • Exposure to electromagnetic fields and small dose exposure to microwaves and gamma radiation sources.
