Overview
Berkeley Preparatory School, located in Tampa, Florida, invites applications for an Upper Division English Teacher (Grades 9-12).
Responsibilities- Full-time instructional position in the Upper Division English Program.
- Deliver seminar- or discussion-based instruction with student inquiry driving discourse through complex essential questions.
- Focus on writing for an array of purposes and audiences; nurture students as writers, readers, and citizens.
- Present a diverse selection of voices and texts, both canonical and contemporary, while teaching deep close reading and encouraging intellectual risk-taking.
- Collaborate with teaching teams and participate in extracurricular activities to support school culture.
- Teach a range of classes in the English department curriculum, from college-prep English 9 and 10 to AP English Language and AP English Literature, as well as senior electives.
- Demonstrate a growth mindset; willingness to receive feedback regularly; contribute to the life of the school; and work in a culturally and ethnically diverse environment.
- Energetic, innovative, and student-centered candidate with strong communication and pedagogical skills.
- Experience in seminar- or discussion-based instruction with emphasis on writing and inquiry-driven discourse.
- Ability to teach multiple English courses across grade levels and AP sections.
- Collaborative, culturally competent, with a sense of humor and compassion for young adolescents.
- Desire to honor and further develop school culture and participate in extracurricular activities.
- Willingness to receive feedback, grow professionally, and contribute to the life of the school.
The appointment is available August 2026 and is a full-time salary-exempt position and eligible for full benefits. The compensation package will be competitive nationally and commensurate with experience, certification attainment, and the national independent school and college markets.
