The Secondary Teacher (grades 6-12) is responsible for the instruction of designated content area(s)/course(s) in a classroom setting within a secondary school.

- Designs and implements appropriate instruction of content area(s)/course(s) assigned in accordance with state standards, district curriculum, and students’ needs.
- Creates a positive educational climate for students to learn in an atmosphere of respect and rapport.
- Creates and delivers relevant and rigorous lessons that maximize student engagement and achievement.
- Utilizes a variety of teaching practices and methodologies that reflect diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds to meet the individual needs of students.
- Observes and evaluates student performance and mastery of standards, monitors assessment data, and maintains student grades and attendance.
- Manages student behavior in the classroom by utilizing effective classroom management strategies and applying disciplinary procedures as needed.
- Communicates with parents and school/district personnel regarding student progress and encourages parental involvement.
- Ensures health and safety of students and protection of equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintains and secures confidential records, inquiries, and data appropriately.
- Maintains appropriate certifications and engages in professional development as required.
- Performs any other duties as assigned; understands that responsibilities may change according to the needs of the district.
- Communications: expresses ideas verbally and in writing, listens effectively, and keeps others informed.
- Job knowledge: competent in required job skills and knowledge; ability to learn and apply new skills; stays current with developments and requires minimal supervision.
- Judgment: exercises sound and timely decision-making and involves appropriate people in decisions.
- Project management: develops plans, coordinates projects, and completes them on time and within budget.
- Planning and organizing: prioritizes, plans work activities, and uses time efficiently.
- Note:
School Board Policy ensures equal opportunity and prohibits discrimination; district may have veteran-related preferences as applicable. - Certificates/Licenses/Registrations:
Florida Professional Educator Certificate preferred; eligibility for Florida Temporary Certificate required. - Other skills: reads, analyzes, and interprets documents; responds to inquiries; writes and presents effectively; basic computer skills.
Physical Demands:
Standing, walking, sitting, handling, keyboarding, talking, and hearing. Lifting up to 10 pounds. Reaching with both hands; overhead. Noise: moderate.
