The Morsani College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Hematology is seeking a Academic Hematologist (Open-Rank) with a desire to work in benign/classical Hematology. This position will have a 2/8th appointment with the VA to provide clinical care for malignant hematology cases (Hodgkin’s and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma) with and without fellows in clinic, take 3 weekend calls a year with fellows, and be able to supervise fellows dealing with chemotherapy unit issues.
This position will work within the USF Hemophilia Treatment Center specializing in diagnosis and treatment and management of bleeding disorders. Additionally, this position will have an opportunity to engage in FDA approved Gene therapy. Our center has its own 340B program that helps support our wide range of patient care activities and staff, including RN, NP, Physical Therapist, Social worker, and administrative staff.
We have our own clinical research team that supports our clinical research activities.
Additional academic responsibilities may include advising and mentoring students in the development of scholarly projects; assessing, reviewing, and evaluating student educational activities and progress; and serving on university-wide, medical school, and/or departmental committees.
Prefer: 1-3 years of physician experience with benign hematology. Previous experience in an academic medical center and proven track record in teaching and/or clinical research preferred. Extensive thrombosis experience is a plus as we are evolving our activities into a hemostasis/thrombosis center. Applicants with a track record in clinical or basic research in hemostasis or thrombosis are particularly encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities- Clinical – The candidate will practice in an outpatient clinic with some inpatient consults treating patients. Lead outreach efforts to improve outcomes in at risk patients. Additionally, assume a role of liaison for health care decisions between the patients and the health care providers in the community, including the primary care physicians, internists, dentists, and other providers. Complete clinical obligations such as chart completion, patient follow-up, etc.
- Teaching – Education and Training of medical students, residents, and fellows who rotate through the Hematology and Medical Oncology clinical service. Position may also do precepting medical students in an ambulatory clerkship.
- Responsible to a Chair or other appropriate higher-level administrator of a State university.
- Responsible for teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities.
- Responsible for academic advising and related activities.
- May represent the university, college/school, or department.
Minimum: Medical degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. For Associate/Full Professor – Normally will have produced creative work, professional writing or research in referred and other professional journals and be recognized authority in the field of specialization.
Preferred: Must hold or be eligible for a full, unrestricted Florida Medical License or foreign equivalent required. To perform this position, the candidate will need to obtain and maintain a full unrestricted FL Medical License, maintain credentials in the USF Health faculty practice plan, and be a medical staff member in good standing at the hospitals he/she is assigned to perform clinical duties.
The candidate will participate in the teaching of residents, fellows, and medical students in clinical medicine.
Must be board certified in Internal Medicine
