Position: Assistant Director, Athletic Live Events

Assistant Director, Athletic Live Events (Finance)

The Assistant Director of Athletic Communication is responsible for managing and overseeing the communication and media relations efforts for an athletic department or organization. They work closely with coaches, athletes, and media outlets to promote and publicize athletic events, accomplishments, and news. They may also be involved in managing social media accounts, writing press releases, coordinating interviews, and maintaining statistical information.

The Assistant Director of Athletic Communication plays a crucial role in enhancing the visibility and reputation of the athletic program.

Responsibilities
  • Write, edit, and distribute press releases, game stories, game notes, media guides, and other pertinent written materials and ensure accurate and timely updating of sports pages on athletics website
  • Nominate and promote student‑athletes for awards.
  • Maintain accurate historical records, biographies, and statistics and coordinate the keeping of in‑game statistics for designated sports.
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise game‑day media functions and credentialing of staff and media for designated sports.
  • Work with head coach, coaching staff, and student‑athletes to prepare them for successful media interactions and social media use.
  • Develop stories for external media outlets.
  • Teach and mentor student interns to supplement game‑day and weekly duties and develop their professional readiness.
  • Lead creative and engaging social media efforts to project the USF brand for athletics programs, working closely with the branding & content team (graphic design/video production) to ideate and produce graphics, GIFs, and video.
  • Create and execute monthly content calendar plans for social media channels.
  • Cultivate and expand awareness, affinity, and support for the university and its athletic programs through strategic communications and public relations.
  • Build relationships and regularly communicate with local, regional and national media outlets to facilitate coverage of athletic programs.
  • Assist in coordination of photo shoots; assist in game‑day duties for USF football and occasionally USF basketball; execute some office‑manager duties; interface with other athletics departments, university personnel and external publics and create positive and productive relationships.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of related experience.
