The Costume Shop Alteration Specialist will support the Costume Shop Supervisor in the coordination of alterations for the costume items in the entertainment shows for all NCLH vessels. They will maintain a schedule of the alterations to ensure costumes meet road case deadlines. This coordinator will facilitate the inspection of finished garments to adhere to NCLH quality standards. This specialist will support the training of new personnel on NCLH costume shop standards.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work directly with Management and the team, to establish priorities and support the management of labor and scheduling.
- Schedule and assist in the supervision of fittings in coordination with Wardrobe Leads and Shop Manager.
- Under supervision, organize shop workflows and distribute daily work to staff. Perform quality inspection of completed garments ensuring that all work meets NCL Costume Shop standards.
- Help train new employees by administering sewing tests and communicating NCL policy and standards.
- Monitor work units and quality objectives of each associate and the achievement of these objectives.
- Perform in-process quality inspections at various workstations and ensure all finished garments receive final inspection.
- Report malfunctioning equipment and machinery in the workrooms to the Shop manager.
- Assist management team in maintaining Costume Shop supplies to ensure there's a full inventory of all supplies needed for Alterations team.
- Support opening and closing procedures of Costume Shop.
- Assist with the monitoring of timekeeping for non-exempt associates by tracking hours worked and creating a system to catalog individual employee time for labor tracking and efficiency purposes.
- Establish a harmonious and positive relationship with the Fitters, Stitchers, and Wardrobe Teams to help maintain an efficient workflow.
- Perform other job-related functions as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
DEGREE TYPE: High School Diploma
FIELD(S) OF STUDY: Post-secondary education in Costume Production, Theatrical Costuming, or related field preferred.
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 2 years' experience in a professional Costume Shop.
COMPETENCIES/SKILLS
- Knowledge of and general experience in theatrical sewing applications.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Computer knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook.
- Working knowledge of machinery used in the costume industry including, but not limited to, industrial and domestic single and multi-needle sewing machines, steam irons, and cutting tools.
