Position: Court Services Clerk CL-26

The Middle District of Florida seeks a full-time Court Services Clerk for the Tampa Division to support the Court's mission of providing fair and impartial justice to all.

The Court Services Clerk performs a broad range of duties in support of court operations, including serving as a backup courtroom deputy clerk, case administration, and assisting the jury department as needed.

Backup courtroom deputy clerk duties include scheduling and attending hearings and trials; performing case management; preparing and arranging the courtroom; ensuring the presence of necessary participants; verifying the functionality of courtroom technology; managing exhibits and electronic evidence presentation systems; assisting witnesses and jurors; and maintaining courtroom decorum. Additional responsibilities include taking notes of proceedings and rulings; preparing minute entries; drafting judgments and other orders for the judge’s review;

uploading orders, notices, judgments, minutes, and related documents to CM/ECF; performing quality control on filings; and monitoring case activity and judicial statistics.

Case administration duties include reviewing incoming documents for compliance with applicable rules, procedures, and court requirements; accurately assigning cases; verifying attorneys' authority to practice before the court; and providing information to individuals within and outside the court, both in person and by telephone. The position is also responsible for performing quality control on CM/ECF filings; uploading documents received by mail and at the intake counter;

preparing and transmitting notices, judgments, and orders to appropriate parties; opening cases upon receipt of initiating documents; and closing cases upon receipt of terminating documents.

The Court Services Clerk may also assist with jury administration and logistics, including the orientation of potential jurors; issuing jury summonses; managing juror attendance and payment; verifying juror qualifications; tracking juror utilization; maintaining records; compiling statistics; and operating the jury management and telephonic response systems.

Requires a professional, cooperative, and congenial demeanor at all times and strong administrative, organizational, analytical, and writing ability. Requires solid computer skills, preferably with Word, Windows, and Office 365. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Legal experience preferred.

  • Three (3) years at a progressively responsible administrative level which demonstrates the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position.

Starting salary is commensurate with relevant work experience, prior federal government service, and previous salary history. Applicants with prior federal court experience may be eligible for a starting salary above the minimum.
