Position Concept

The Sr Accountant – Financial Reporting coordinates, prepares and analytically reviews Tampa Electric Company’s external financial reporting, including SEC filings (Forms 10-Q, 10-K, and 8-K) and parent company financial documents. Provides technical support for corporate accounting and financial reporting groups and assumes responsibility for certain ongoing corporate accounting activities, including accounting for long‑term debt and the injuries and damages reserve. Serves as the primary liaison with external auditors.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Organize and prepare SEC filings (Forms 10‑Q, 10‑K, and 8‑K), ensuring accuracy, timeliness and compliance with regulatory requirements. Stay current on FASB and SEC rules, conduct research and analysis to assess impacts on accounting and disclosures. Oversee development of footnotes and supporting schedules, prepare disclosures for SEC filings and parent company reports, maintain thorough documentation under SOX 404, coordinate internal reviews and serve as primary contact for external auditors.
  • Account for long‑term debt and the injuries and damages reserve, including journal entry preparation, reconciliation to treasury and actuary reports, budget and forecast tracking, analysis report preparation, research and documentation of related accounting issues.
  • Coordinate the external audit process across affiliates, serving as liaison between management and external audit team to ensure effective communication and timely resolution of audit matters.
  • Assist with forecasting and budgeting, SOX compliance and technical accounting research, providing flexible assistance across financial reporting and compliance functions.
Qualifications Education
  • Required:

    Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • Preferred:
    Master’s degree in Accounting.
Licenses/Certifications
  • Preferred: CPA
Experience
  • Required:

    4 years of work experience related to the duties & responsibilities of this position.
  • Preferred: 2 years public accounting experience in a big‑four or national firm.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities (KSA)
  • Required:
    • Thorough understanding of accounting standards by FASB, SEC and other regulatory bodies.
    • Knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
    • Extremely organized, detail, deadline and execution‑oriented, with strong analysis, communication and teamwork skills.
  • Preferred:
    • Proficient knowledge of SAP, BPC & One Stream; proficiency in other financial systems.

Storm Duty Requirements

Responding to storms will be considered a condition of employment.
