The Patient Safety Team at Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust are seeking to recruit a Patient Safety Officer.

You will need demonstrable experience of working in an NHS environment in either a clinical or non-clinical role, and will have excellent communication skills with the ability to produce written reports to a high standard.

As part of the role you will be expected to communicate sensitive information with patients and their families during times of distress. You will engage with clinical staff from a wide range of professional backgrounds, with proven strong analytical skills and the ability to apply appropriate professional curiosity.

This is an exciting time to join the Patient Safety Team as we begin to embed the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) across the Trust. Whilst this is busy and demanding role, there is great opportunity for learning and development

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be one of the team of senior leaders within the Nursing and Integrated Governance Unit who will collectively have the responsibility for enabling corporate compliance with the national requirements and standards set by the Commissioners, Care Quality Commission and other regulators. The post holder will provide leadership and professional advice to managers and staff within the Trust on incident investigation and patient safety in line with PSIRF

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Degree level education, or equivalent experience in Healthcare
  • Postgraduate level qualification or equivalent work experience in healthcare
Experience
  • Previous experience of working in a clinical or non-clinical role within a relevant NHS environment
  • Experience of multi professional working within a healthcare setting
  • Experience in preparing and writing complex reports.
  • Evidence of communication with patients, families, service users regarding sensitive and distressing information
  • An ability to interpret complex information
  • An ability to present information to divisional/executive level
  • Demonstrable experience in reporting and management of incidents, including incident investigation in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience of developing and implementing systems of work to monitor and measure patient safety.
  • Previous experience of working with patient safety or in a risk environment/role
  • Experience of PSRIF
  • Experience of PSIRF / HSIB training in patient safety
Skills
  • Able to demonstrate leadership and problem solving skills in complex and difficult situations
  • Developed analytical skills with the ability to assess, interpret, act and report upon complex information of a variety of sources
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
