Overview

Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner - Same Day Emergency Care

Apprenticeship - 37.5 hours per week

Role and Training

The post holder will undertake a 2 or 3-year master’s programme in Advanced Clinical Practice (ACP) to enable independent, autonomous clinical practice as an Advanced Practitioner. During training, the post holder will be allocated a medical supervisor and ACP mentor to ensure successful achievement of the clinical skills required for the role. All trainees will be identifiable in their new roles as Advanced Practitioners in training.

As part of the training programme, the post holder will be released for study days and placements required to complete the programme.

Responsibilities and Practice

On completion of the programme, the post holder will take a lead role in the advanced clinical assessment and treatment of patients within their field of practice. They will autonomously determine clinical diagnoses and treatment interventions as necessary. The post holder will ensure evidence-based practice is integral to all aspects of care and treatment and will disseminate this knowledge via robust medical plans.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Exercise advanced clinical expertise, levels of judgement, discretion and decision making as demonstrated through a portfolio of evidence.
  • Provide advanced clinical skills and advice with a sound understanding of identification, assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of patients in their field of practice.
  • Monitor and lead improvements to standards of care through supervision of practice, clinical audit, evidence-based practice, teaching and supporting professional colleagues, and providing skilled professional leadership.
  • Lead the implementation of relevant research into practice contributing to further development of the evidence base through research and audit.
  • Contribute to the Clinical Governance agenda within the service by leading audit and research as part of the multi-disciplinary team in their area of expertise.
  • Act in accordance with their registered professional code.
