About this jobKey Duties and Responsibilities Undertake prescribing in roles determined by service need; develop and maintain clinical assessment skills to support prescribing.
Provide highly specialised advice to medical and other clinical staff on all aspects of NMP areas.
Ensure NMP practice complies with national legislation, professional regulatory standards, and organisational medicines management.
Maintain robust clinical governance arrangements for NMP. Assist in the management of prescribing across the primary / secondary care interface to promote a unified and coordinated approach.
Assist in the development of guidance and policies to ensure safe efficient practice.
Contribute to the planning, and delivery of patient events and educational sessions.
Supported by the Senior Administrator maintain a database of all registered non-medical prescribers, coordinating registration / de-registration of non-medical prescribers with the NHS Business Services Authority.
Develop robust processes for ensuring ongoing eligibility to prescribe, Support workforce planning and service development involving NMP roles.
Provide clinical supervision for non-medical prescribers, and work closely with the Clinical Service Managers to evaluate prescribing data, assessment of competence in line with national frameworks, and provision of / signposting to relevant professional development resources.
With reference to national guidance ensure that the Non-Medical Prescribing Policy meets the needs of all services across the organisation.
Develop and implement policies and procedures relating to non-medical prescribing, alongside the recognised competency framework.
Co-ordinate the development and provision of an evidence-based programme of education and clinical supervision for non-medical prescribers and assist in training NMPs.
Contribute to and support local ICB processes and polices which directly influence gtd healthcare.
Work closely with the Clinical Service Managers in the various localities to support the delivery of NMP policy and procedures.
Ensure service and individual non-medical prescribing audits are taking place across the organisation and are reported via the governance audit schedule.
Communication Utilise and demonstrate sensitive communication styles.
Anticipate barriers to communication and take action to improve communication.
Maintain effective communication within the organisation and with key stakeholders.
Delivering a Quality Service Recognise and work within own competence and professional code of conduct as regulated by the NMC/HPC etc.
Understand own role and scope and identify how this may develop over time.
Contribute to the development of local NMP guidelines, protocols, and standards.
Prioritise, organise, and manage own workload in a manner that maintains and promotes quality.
Ensure professional revalidation requirements are met.
Oversee approval processes for staff undertaking NMP training.
Ensure prescribers meet competency, supervision, and assessment requirements.
Deliver care according to NICE guidelines and evidence-based care.
Initiate and participate in the maintenance of quality governance systems and processes across the organisation and its activities.
In partnership with other clinical teams, collaborate on improving the quality of health care responding to local and national policies and initiatives as appropriate.
Along with the Lead Pharmacist and Clinical Service Managers develop and co-ordinate audits and protocols to monitor and analyse the effects of practice and impact of change within non-medical prescribing, ensure implementation of action plans according to the results.
Review outcomes, trends, and learning from incidents.
Leadership Personal and People Development Take responsibility for own learning and performance including participating in clinical supervision and acting as a positive role model.
Act as a professional and clinical resource for non-medical prescribers.
Provide advice on scope of practice, prescribing decisions and escalation, Support staff development to maximise potential.
Support audit, CPD and revalidation requirements for the NMP workforce.
Actively promote the workplace as a learning environment and as a safe, effective, evidence based prescribing culture.
Encourage everyone to learn from each other, share best practice and learn from external good practice.
Encourage others to make realistic self-assessment of their application of knowledge and skills, challenging any complacency or actions that are not in the interest of the public and/or users of services.
Critically evaluate and review innovations and developments related to medicines optimisation that are relevant to the area of work.
Take a lead role in planning and implementing changes within clinical areas/service developments.
