Job title:
A&E Receptionist – Band 2
37.5 hours per week – Permanent. Join the A&E reception team as a welcoming and professional first point of contact for patients and health‑care professionals. The role requires excellent communication skills, good telephone etiquette, and a positive customer‑care approach. Flexibility and shift work, including unsociable hours (weekends, bank holidays, nights), are essential.
Responsibilities- Provide a welcoming and professional first impression at the A&E reception desk, both front‑facing and via telephone.
- Handle enquiries in person, by phone or by email efficiently, politely and courteously.
- Deliver full clerical support to the A&E Department, including administrative cover across all reception desks and Same Day Emergency Care.
- Work independently with initiative and as part of a team to ensure smooth running of the reception service.
- Adapt to shift patterns that incorporate days, evenings and nights; unsociable hours over weekends, bank holidays and 8:00–6:00 am receive enhancement payments.
Essential:
- GCSE English (Grade A–C)
- Computer skills, including Word processing, database use, filing, and Excel.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Organisational skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative.
- Good interpersonal skills, accuracy, attention to detail and prioritising work.
- Flexibility, reliability, courteous and professional attitude, fitness to undertake duties, willingness to train and be trained, and commitment to personal/professional development.
Desirable:
- Experience in a healthcare setting.
- A&E experience.
- Lorenzo computer skills.
- Salary: £24,465 per annum (Agenda for change)
- Band: 2
- Contract: Permanent and Full‑time, flexible working.
- Working pattern: 37.5 hours per week; shift work (days, evenings, nights).
- Annual leave: 27‑33 days plus bank holidays.
