The North Florida/South Georgia VA Healthcare System's Mental Health Service is seeking an experienced and dynamic Nurse Practitioner (NP) located in Tallahassee, FL. Ideal applicants are those who want to contribute to the achievement of quality care standards, as well as the growth and development of a VA academic hospital program.

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.

As a Licensed Independent Provider, the Nurse Practitioner practices autonomously and in coordination with health care professionals and other individuals. The incumbent provides a wide range of health care services, including the diagnosis and management of acute, chronic, and complex health problems; health promotion; disease prevention; health education; and counseling to individuals, families, groups and communities. Must be an excellent communicator and team player who is adaptable to the needs of a growing medical center.

Other duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

* Assessing status of veterans with serious mental illness, and planning, intervening and evaluating indicated actions.

* Displaying knowledge of the principles, concepts, theories, and methodology of General Nursing Practice and Mental Health Nursing practice.

* Completing history and physical on all new admissions.

* Participating in the interdisciplinary team in development of a comprehensive plan of care for each patient.

* Displaying knowledge of normal developmental theory including the aging process and basic concepts of gerontology, knowledge of adult and geriatric psychology, and knowledge of the special needs of the physically disabled and the frail elderly.

* Completing some skilled nurse functions such as completing primary care clinical reminders, providing medication education and disease education, and obtaining lab work.

* Displaying knowledge of VHA programs as well as community housing programs that serve the homeless.

* Using computer applications related to data collection and interpretation, program evaluation, and clinical services.

* Communicating both orally and in writing with people from diverse backgrounds.

* Functioning independently, meets deadlines, and function under pressure.

Pay:
