Overview:
The Florida Gaming Control Commission ("the Commission") is responsible for exercising all regulatory and executive powers of the state with respect to legal gaming, including pari-mutuel wagering, cardrooms, slot machine facilities, oversight of gaming compacts, and other forms of gambling authorized by state law, excluding the Lottery, as well as directly enforcing Florida's gaming laws and combatting illegal gambling activities.
The agency is overseen by five Commissioners who are appointed by the Governor, with Commissioners appointing an Executive Director who leads a team of nearly 200 staff members. The mission of the Florida Gaming Control Commission is to preserve and protect the integrity of gaming activities through fair regulation, licensing, effective criminal investigation, and enforcement.

The Office of the General Counsel for the Florida Gaming Control Commission is seeking a highly motivated attorney to serve as Special Counsel and Informal Hearing Officer.
Position
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Office of the General Counsel supports the Commission by providing legal counsel on all matters under the Commission's jurisdiction and prosecuting noncompliance with Florida's gambling laws.
The Special Counsel position is a dynamic role that includes: (I) providing legal counsel to the Office of the Commissioners regarding the Sunshine Law, including public meeting requirements and public records requests; (II) drafting rules and advising the Commission on the rule making process; and (III) serving as an informal hearing officer in regulatory cases brought by the Office of the General Counsel on behalf of the Division of Pari-Mutuel Wagering.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Skill in drafting legal documents;
* Skill in managing multiple complex cases;
* Ability to use Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel;
* Ability to prioritize work;
* Ability to work independently and in a team environment;
* Ability to communicate effectively;
* Ability to conduct legal research;
* Ability to make oral presentations in court and in large groups;
* Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments;
* Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques;

* Ability to manage a litigation case load;
* Ability to recognize and act on emerging issues and shifting priorities;
* Ability to adapt to changing work volume and variety and work efficiently under stressful situations; and
* Ability to travel.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Admission to the Florida Bar;
* Two (2) years of professional experience in the practice of law, legal research, teaching law or in administrative or judicial hearings; and
* A valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Florida's Administrative Procedure Act.
