Phlebotomist I – Phlebotomy
Location: Tallahassee, FL
Duration: 4+ Months (Possibility of Extension)
Shift Timings:
- Monday–Friday: 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Rotational Saturday: 6:00 AM – 1:00 PM
The Phlebotomist I (Patient Services Representative I) is the primary representative of the organization to patients arriving for routine health services or important diagnostic needs. This role is responsible for collecting high quality blood samples and preparing specimens for laboratory testing while adhering strictly to established policies and procedures.
The PSR I interacts directly with patients, creating a professional, trustworthy, and comfortable environment. The position requires strong phlebotomy skills, excellent communication, and a consistent focus on patient care, safety, accuracy, and confidentiality. The Phlebotomist I is also expected to model leadership behaviors and process excellence at all times.
Key Responsibilities- Perform daily phlebotomy and specimen processing tasks accurately and on schedule under the direction of the area supervisor.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and professional work environment.
- Confidently perform clinical and forensic specimen collection following established procedures and guidelines.
- Ensure proper specimen labeling, documentation, and record maintenance.
- Provide clear explanations of procedures and deliver excellent patient care, fostering trust and comfort.
- Maintain professionalism and promote a positive organizational image when interacting with patients, clients, colleagues, and the public.
- Uphold strict confidentiality and accuracy with patient information.
- Ability to produce quality, error free work in a fast paced environment.
- Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong phlebotomy skills, including experience with pediatric and geriatric patients.
- Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, on call, and overtime based on staffing needs.
- High school diploma or equivalent – Required
- Medical assistant or paramedic training – Preferred
- Phlebotomy certification – Preferred
- Mandatory only in California, Nevada, and Washington
- Minimum 6 months phlebotomy experience – Required
- 1+ year phlebotomy experience – Preferred
- Customer service experience in retail or service environments – Preferred
- Strong keyboarding and data entry skills – Required
- Candidates must include home city and commute time on their résumé.
- Must live within 20–25 minutes of the Tallahassee worksite.
- Pay rate is based solely on direct phlebotomy experience (no double counting overlapping roles).
- Students must ensure their class schedules do not conflict with required shifts.
- Must have reliable personal transportation (rideshare, taxi, Uber, bus, etc. are not considered reliable for this role).
- Must be punctual, available for all scheduled shifts, and able to stay for the full shift.
- Excessive lateness or absenteeism will result in termination.
