Position Summary:
Provides and documents individualized patient care, including patient evaluation, education, medication administration, IV therapy, treatments, and patient safety, as directed by the RN or provider.
- Essential Functions — Demonstrates competency in advanced practical nursing skills and uses patient care/unit equipment per unit-specific requisite skills.
- Communicates information about the patient’s condition to the RN and other healthcare team members.
- Assists RN or provider during examinations and procedures.
- Documents patient data and education according to Baptist Health and department guidelines.
- Performs triage, assesses patients, and determines next steps in care, in collaboration with the department nursing team or provider(s).
- Administers oral and injectable medications or immunizations within LPN scope as directed by a provider.
- Maintains a safe, compassionate environment for patients and families.
- Keeps informed about changes in hospital policy, procedure, and equipment.
- Participates in nursing quality improvement activities as assigned.
- Demonstrates awareness of legal issues, patient rights, and regulatory/accrediting standards.
- Provides age-appropriate care and demonstrates ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status across age groups, per unit/department policies.
- Maintains regular, punctual attendance in line with Baptist Health policies and applicable laws.
- Maintains compliance with all Baptist Health policies and procedures.
- Perioperative Anesthesia (if applicable): Demonstrates aseptic technique, supports anesthesia personnel, prepares equipment, and participates in intraoperative care and post-anesthesia transport per policy.
- Other related functions: knowledge of growth and development principles; efficient use of supplies.
- Education/Training: Nursing School Graduate
- Licensure/Certification: Current nursing license in the State of Alabama (renewed every two years); current BLS/Health Care Provider certification.
