Job Description

Provides safe and efficient transportation for students on routes and to various school activities, adhering to State and District regulations and procedures.

Qualifications

Knowledge: CDL License not required. Must pass a medical exam, have a good driving record, and pass a felony background check. Must be able to read and write. Patience is required.

Skills: Ability to safely maneuver a school shuttle van. Strong interpersonal skills to work with students and staff, ensuring effective discipline.

Equipment: Shuttle Van and two‑way radio.

Essential Job Functions
  • Obey all traffic laws and observe all safety regulations.
  • Maintain discipline while students are on the shuttle van.
  • Follow assigned schedules promptly.
  • Discharge students only at authorized stops.
  • Transport only authorized students.
  • Report all accidents and complete required reports.

Daily responsibilities of shuttle van drivers:

  • Check radiator for correct anti‑freeze level.
  • Check and maintain oil level.
  • Sweep the shuttle van and check for obstructions on windshield, mirrors and windows.
  • Check brakes, stop lights and loading lights to ensure proper operation.
  • During winter months, start the van a few minutes early and check heaters and defrosters.
  • Check for mechanical problems and report issues in written form using the daily report form.
  • Inspect the interior after each trip for damage and report immediately to the Transportation Director.
  • Inspect the exterior after each trip for broken lights, cracked windows and body damage and report immediately to the Transportation Director.
  • Turn in information of all new students riding the shuttle van.
  • Responsible for fueling the van.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Days: 183 hours (varying). 9 paid holidays.

Varied; discrepancy for sitting, standing, walking as per schedule.

Salary/Benefits

Position Type: Full‑Time

Salary: $13.62 to $18.94 per hour

Class: 400

Fringes: per negotiated agreement. Vacation: N/A.

Physical Requirements

Work involves occasional, frequent, and continuous physical activities including bending, stooping, crouching, pushing, and lifting up to 100 lbs. Detailed requirements are outlined in the job posting.
