Job Summary

Performs maintenance and repairs work in all general areas, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and the ability to prioritize. Responsible for preventative and corrective maintenance on a daily, weekly, monthly, semi‑annual, and annual basis, depending on equipment. Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Responsible for maintaining, repairing, modifying, renovating, and construction of plumbing distribution and fixtures steam distribution and heating.

Performs all required inspections, and testing and preventative maintenance on all the plumbing systems. Strong knowledge of NFPA 25, 70, 72, 99, and 110. Good working knowledge of State and local codes and their application in healthcare.

Job Duties
  • Oversees all plumbing activity in the Cherokee Nation Health Care facility and properties.
  • Uses blueprints, sketches, and drawings to renovate, construct, and install new and existing equipment.
  • Inspects major piping systems and subsystems regularly and performs preventative maintenance and repairs in compliance with established standards and codes.
  • Operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs major plumbing breakdowns for equipment such as boilers, pipes, fittings, fixtures, air compressors, pumps, reducing stations, traps, valves, heaters, and medical gas and oxygen lines.
  • Assists in general maintenance of buildings and grounds as directed.
  • Monitors the Energy Management System program.
  • Maintains parts and supply inventory for plant equipment and reports supply requirements.
  • Provides technical guidance and direction to maintenance staff.
  • Performs water treatment program to central energy plant.
  • Repairs kitchen equipment and services ice machines.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on medical air, medical suction, and medical gas systems.
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains air, gas, sewer, and steam lines and systems.
  • Cuts, bends, threads pipe, fitting valves and couplings and joins various materials (copper, plastic, rubber, vinyl, neoprene, aluminum, stainless steel).
  • Installs pipe assemblies and plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, showers, emergency eyewashes, special laboratory equipment, water heaters, etc., including rough‑in as needed.
  • Repairs and cleans sewer pipes and clears clogged lines.
  • Installs, maintains and repairs domestic water pumps, water piping lines, filters, and plumbing fixtures.
  • Repairs and maintains steam stations, valves, heating and condensation return stations, and sewer and storm drains.
  • Tests fire system valves, tamper switches, fire pumps, and dry deluge fire systems.
  • Maintains the piping and supply of cylinder and bulk medical gas systems.
  • Utilizes latest techniques for cutting, fixing, and connecting copper, brass, glass, plastic, cast iron, and other piping materials.
  • Works independently with minimal or no supervision.
  • Accurately completes all required documentation including Infection Control Risk Assessment, Alternative Life Safety Measures, and other regulatory records.
  • Reviews DNV findings, identifies missing or incorrect documentation, and takes corrective action to ensure compliance with HCFAP, CMS, and applicable standards.
  • Provides regular on‑call duties and responds to weekend, holiday, and after‑hours emergencies.
  • Works in confined spaces, heat/cold extremes, inclement weather, and assists in unrelated tasks when required.
  • Participates in disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities

No supervisory responsibility.

Qualifications
  • Associates degree from a 2‑year college or technical school; or two (2) years of coursework from a 4‑year college or university; or three (3) years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Additional three (3) years of journeyman‑level plumbing experience required.
  • Must know spreadsheet and word processing software.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and valid state‑issued Journeyman Plumber’s license.
  • Must obtain CPR certification within six (6) months of hire.
