The Health Services Security Officer is responsible for protecting and securing the facility, premises, personnel, patients, equipment, and visitors by patrolling and monitoring surveillance equipment, facilitating emergency communications, investigating security breaches, incidents, and other alarming behaviors, and preventing losses or damage.
Responsibilities- Provide health care services to individuals eligible for services in accordance with the self‑governance compact and funding agreement between the Cherokee Nation and the United States.
- Assist with incoming phone calls, facilitate communication within the facility, and assist with callbacks of medical personnel.
- Open secure areas for employees to work.
- Monitor closed‑circuit monitors and respond to intrusion, duress alarms, medical gas, and refrigerator alarms.
- Provide a secure environment within the facility for staff, patients, and visitors; coordinate emergency personnel during disaster conditions.
- Secure and protect possible crime scenes, dispatch officers to calls, and respond to calls requiring assistance.
- Restrict rowdy, belligerent, violent, intoxicated, or emotionally disturbed patients and visitors using non‑violent crisis intervention or force if necessary.
- Maintain security logs, documents, and files related to investigations; prepare incident reports during each tour of duty for review by the supervisor.
- Communicate with Marshal Service, local police, sheriff, fire departments, ambulance, and emergency management civil defense when emergencies occur to ensure preparedness by the Health Facilities for any disaster situation.
- Assist with disaster training for Health Services staff.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of laws on federal, state, tribal, and city levels about activities within the facility, including departmental policies and procedures.
- Respond to motorists needing assistance.
- Provide security for patients’ personal effects.
- High school diploma or GED.
- No additional experience required.
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Decision‑making, problem/situation analysis, attentiveness, judgment.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving history.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain within 90 days of hire.
- Defensive Tactics and Taser recertification annually.
- Basic CLEET or FLETC certification for unarmed security; maintain throughout employment or obtain within 90 days of hire.
- Complete continuing education units/requirements.
- Possess certification of security training awarded by the U.S. Armed Forces (optional).
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least 2 years of experience in a related field.
- Be at least 21 years of age.
- Pass firearms qualifications annually.
- Same licensing and certification requirements as unarmed (driver’s license, BLS, defensive tactics, CLEET/FLETC, continuing education).
- Basic CLEET certification for armed security; maintain throughout employment or obtain within 90 days of hire.
- Obtain a Commission card from Cherokee Nation Marshall Services to carry a firearm on Cherokee Nation property.
Regular: stand and walk. Frequent: sit, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk, hear, taste, smell. Must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds frequently and occasionally more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus.
