Overview
Job Summary:
GENERAL DESCRIPTION Plans and delivers professional nursing care to patients in accordance with the Oklahoma Board of Nursing and Cherokee Nation Health Services’ mission, vision, and values.
- Provides care to patients under the direction of a practitioner and assists practitioners during exams.
- Assessment and documentation of patient condition and vital signs.
- Administer therapeutic measures as prescribed by the practitioner.
- Assess, develop, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing diagnoses and plans of care for patients.
- Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members and facilitate the modification of patient treatment plans as indicated by patients’ responses and conditions.
- Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records, including, but not limited to symptoms and changes in patients’ conditions.
- Provide comprehensive, safe, and effective evidence-based nursing care to achieve identified health outcomes.
- Provide high-level communication skills that include: interpersonal, verbal, written, and electronic.
- Possess the ability to contribute cohesively as an active member of the multidisciplinary team.
- Plan, provide, and appropriately document the teaching/education of patients.
- Assume oversight for patient care administered by licensed practical nurses and unlicensed personnel in any assigned or delegated tasks.
- Safely operate and monitor general and specialized patient care equipment.
- Share responsibilities for sustaining adequate supplies and equipment, as well as maintaining general upkeep of the unit to preserve a safe environment.
- Maintain knowledge and competency of current and evidence-based nursing practice.
- Exhibits exemplary leadership qualities and sets a positive example while adhering to and promoting professional, ethical, and legal standards of nursing.
- Maintain and promote positive work habits and culture.
- Licensure and certification documentation, including renewals, must be submitted upon receipt thereof per employer guidelines.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of Associate’s degree in Nursing from a two-year college or technical school; no exceptions.
- No experience is required.
- Must possess a license as a Registered Nurse (RN) from the Oklahoma Board of Nursing (OBN) or possess a multistate RN license accepted by the OBN, no substitutions. Must maintain license throughout employment.
- Basic Life Support (BLS); must be obtained during orientation and maintained throughout employment.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS); must be obtained within 6 months of hire and maintained throughout employment.
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS); must be obtained within 6 months of hire and maintained throughout employment.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) — within 6 months of hire and maintain throughout employment.
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) — within 12 months of hire and maintain throughout employment.
- Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) — within 12 months of hire and maintain throughout employment.
- Triage Competency (Minimum of 1 year Emergency Department (ED) experience) before performing triage.
- RECOMMENDED: Electrocardiogram (ECG) Interpretation and Dysrhythmia Course — within 6 months of hire and maintain annually.
- The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG’s Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA’s List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG’s List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
- May be required to meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudication for child care.
- A driver’s license may be required to work in some departments. If so, the applicant/employee must possess a valid driver’s license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets the requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.
