Job Summary
Accountable for the quality of all nursing care within multiple system-level and site-based nursing programs including the Nurse Residency and Extern Program, PRN Nursing Float Pool, and Patient Monitoring Program. Provides direction, leadership, organization, and general management for all aspects of patient care, ensuring integration of services and compliance with the long‑range objectives of the Cherokee Nation and Health Services division.
Job DutiesProvides healthcare services to individuals eligible for services in accordance with the self‑governance compact founding agreement between the Cherokee Nation and the United States under the Indian Self‑Determination and Education Assistance Act. Ensures all applicable federal, state, local, and organizational privacy laws and regulations are followed, including Health Information and patient rights. Maintains confidentiality of all client/patient information, follows documentation and record‑keeping standards, and ensures data security.
Ensures availability for emergency situations in person, electronically, by phone, or by a qualified delegate 24 hours a day. Models customer service principles and promotes appreciation of patients, families, partners, and employees in line with the Cherokee Nation Health System vision. Recognizes the need for new or updated policies and standard operating procedures, and creates, reviews, and revises them as required.
Assists in managing, monitoring, and developing departmental budgets; provides daily oversight, planning, and implementation of new nursing service lines and programs. Develops collaborative interprofessional relationships with internal and external partners, promotes age‑ and culturally appropriate care, and interprets the multiple dimensions of nursing care requiring system‑level resources.
Advances nursing practice through evidence‑based guidelines, standards, and policies. Provides technical guidance and direction to staff across all nursing levels and evaluates innovative models of care to achieve targeted outcomes. Coordinates planning, implementation, and training with interdisciplinary teams and contributes clinical expertise to committees, project development, and work groups.
Manages the PRN Nurse Float Pool, Patient Monitoring Program staff, and Nurse Residents and Externs, including communication with site nurse managers, orientation, scheduling, recruitment, and hiring. Works with staff to implement the Nurse Residency and Externship according to timelines and standards, establishes networks with nursing schools, and supports preceptor and educator roles.
Represents Cherokee Nation Health Services, promotes the Nursing Scholarship Program, and conveys a positive image of all programs. Facilitates residency program data collection and outcome tracking, employs metrics for performance analysis, and provides updates to senior nursing leadership. Manages relationships between nurse residents and ancillary departments, fosters professional growth, assists with full‑time placement requests, and ensures efficient work schedules.
Leads and promotes staff across all programs, encouraging, rewarding, coaching, and administering disciplinary action as appropriate. Works in collaboration with the Senior Director of Nursing to ensure standardization of processes and education across all sites, provides ongoing communication and reporting to the CNHS Leadership Team, and performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesDirectly supervises up to four (4) subordinate supervisors who oversee more than one hundred (100) employees in the Health Services Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities following organizational policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring, training, planning, directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
QualificationsEducational Requirement
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from a four‑year college or university; no substitutions.
Experience Requirement
At least four (4) years of experience in a related field; supervisory experience preferred.
