The Shop Service Technician is responsible for performing inspections, preventive maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, upgrades, and refurbishments on equipment within the service shop. This role supports high quality workmanship, strong customer satisfaction, and accurate documentation while following all safety and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance and Repair
- Perform troubleshooting, diagnostics, repairs, and component replacements on mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems.
- Complete scheduled preventive maintenance and safety checks in accordance with provided service instructions.
- Review technical bulletins and updates to stay current with evolving equipment requirements.
- Maintain accurate service records, work orders, parts usage, and test results according to established shop standards.
- Ensure all work is completed to quality expectations and meets compliance requirements.
- Support accurate invoicing by documenting labor hours and parts used.
- Follow all safety policies, PPE requirements, and environmental guidelines.
- Report any potential safety risks or equipment concerns to the District Service Manager.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Communicate professionally with customers or internal teams regarding repair needs, timelines, and findings.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to customer satisfaction through reliable workmanship and clear communication.
- Identify opportunities to improve repair processes or shop workflow efficiency.
- Provide feedback to the District Service Manager on recurring issues, parts challenges, or technical updates.
- Mentor junior technicians or trainees as needed.
Education
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical or vocational training in mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, or related fields preferred.
- 3 or more years of hands-on experience in equipment repair or maintenance preferred.
- Experience with diesel engines, hydraulic drive systems, or heavy mechanical systems is an advantage.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities.
- Ability to read technical manuals and interpret schematics.
- Customer focused and able to stay calm in high pressure situations.
- Solid mechanical aptitude and hands-on repair skills.
- Basic computer proficiency for entering service notes and updating work orders.
- Ability to safely operate equipment during testing and post-repair checks.
- Welding certification is a plus.
- Relevant equipment operation certifications may be required based on shop standards.
- Technician must supply personal tools needed for daily responsibilities.
