Description
The Service Technician is responsible for system and component installations, repairs, troubleshooting, maintenance, and retrofits to customers’ equipment or machinery. You will serve our customers directly on location or in the shop. You will work with Internal Service Dispatchers and Coordinators to provide the best client experience. The candidate should be able to learn and retain product-specific information for this role.
SWS is a refuse company, so the candidate must be prepared to work on refuse equipment, including stationary equipment like balers and compactors and mobile equipment such as trash trucks, septic trucks, street sweepers, and related machinery. On-the-job training and formal week-long training courses are provided; work under the supervision of the lead technician.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure health & safety is the top priority by adhering to all policies, processes, and safety protocols
- Read and follow engineering (hydraulic & electrical) schematic drawings and technical specifications
- Prepare new equipment for delivery to customers
- Provide customer guidance for improvement
- Assemble, test, and service systems and components
- Travel to job sites as needed (up to 25% travel associated with this position)
- Manage workflow to ensure the company meets customer required dates
- Follow the process of paperwork requirements for billing, reports, and other documentation
- Work in environmental conditions to include periods of extreme heat and cold
- Execute other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Journeyman-level experience is highly preferred
- Strong mechanical repair expertise with minimal supervision required
- Proficiency with technology and technical systems
- Demonstrates a proactive approach to problem-solving and tasks
- Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities while maintaining an organized and efficient workflow to ensure timely task completion
- Experience with welding processes and techniques
- Familiarity with electrical and hydraulic schematics
- Possession of a comprehensive set of hand tools (beyond basic tools) is required
- Experience with refuse trucks is preferred
- CDL Class A or B certification is strongly preferred
- Mechanical certifications are desirable, but not mandatory
Physical Demands and Work Environment
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. The employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to stand for long periods; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; balance; bend and reach with hands and arms;
use feet to operate foot pedal operation and talk or hear. Occasional climbing of ladders, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling may be required. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
