Appointment: Regular, full-time (1.0 FTE)
Position Summary:
This position serves as the Occupational Health & Safety Manager for the University.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and schedule annual fire extinguisher inspections
- Act as Liaison for Harned, Thomas and Weyerhaeuser halls for safety issues, spills and training.
- Acts as liaison for chemical/environmental contractors on Campus. Participate in campus department safety committees.
- Assist campus community in performing risk mitigation analysis reviewing safety worn practices and recommending suitable safety precautions.
- Coordinates with end-users of chemicals (Faculty and Staff) as to safe handling, storage and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous materials on an on-going basis.
- Perform ergonomics assessments and workplace safety checks.
- Assist Environmental Health & Safety Director with updating safety procedures/plans/protocols.
- Investigate accidents and incidents, write inspection reports and provide training as required.
- Provide leadership in developing, implementing and managing Environmental Health & Safety policies, programs, and practices to the campus community.
- Maintain recordkeeping and reporting performance for safety related requirements and objectives.
- Perform air quality inspections and respirator fit tests as needed.
- Monitor compliance with local, state, and federal regulations (EX. WISHA, OSHA, Labor & Industry, Department of Ecology, Fire Marshal, and Health Department).
- Coordinate with the Environmental Health & Safety Director to provide Health and Safety training, including emergency preparedness, to ensure overall safety and health of faculty, staff, students, and campus community.
- Maintain master files of Safety Data Sheets, training completion and other relevant information.
- Act as lead and liaison for all mold investigations, remediation and testing.
- Serve as back-up for Environmental Health & Safety Director.
- Coordinate Emergency Generator maintenance, inspections, and operations.
- Oversee and maintain training and compliance software systems.
- Respond to emergency and urgent situations outside of scheduled work hours, including when the university is under modified operations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- As the manager, this position will work as a team member in providing services and support to all areas. This is accomplished through regular meetings and interpersonal relationships in support of the overall strategic objectives.
- In support of the mission and strategic goals of the university, the manager is responsible to develop, sustain, and continually assess and improve the effectiveness of Facilities Services.
- Identify and participate in resolution of departmental/institutional challenges with continuous quality improvement as a goal.
- Work collaboratively with the Facilities Services team in support of our mission.
- Participate in staff meetings, other meetings, and professional development/training workshops and seminars.
- Promote and support a professional environment that welcomes students, faculty, staff, and vendors, and enables them to access our services in an encouraging, organized, effective, and helpful way.
- As a member of the Facilities leadership team, this position is responsible for developing, managing and measuring work, and building an effective team.
- As the manager, this position includes upholding the standards in the Code of Conduct and other university policies, modeling professionalism in all interactions, and respectfully hearing staff input and concerns either directly or from Human Resources.
- May supervise work study students and temporary staff.
Budget Responsibilities:
Responsible for overseeing assigned planned major maintenance capital budgets and operating budget(s). Have disbursement authority on assigned budgets up to $1,000. Maintain budget records, review expenses against budget and prepare budget requests above signing authority for approval by the associate vice president for facilities services.
