How to be Successful in the Role

Provide great customer service for our fellow Pierce County employees and building tenants. The work is performed as part of a team of custodians responsible for the County's floor/carpet maintenance program. The focus is on the public facing areas of our County buildings, including the County Courthouse, and also many office and work spaces of County employees. As part of a team, you will be responsible for independent work in smaller areas needing floor care, and also working with other team members on the larger jobs.

Occasionally, work in general housekeeping is required in response to special circumstances or projects.

Your Future in this Role

You will receive training and gain experience, including building trades knowledge, safety procedures, building orientation, computer applications, and much more, to help you become an experienced, well‑rounded facilities professional.

The Custodian 1 in this role is a key person in maintaining the floors and carpets within our buildings, which not only provides a welcoming professional look to our facilities but also contributes to the health of the building. Removing embedded dirt and debris from carpets improves indoor air quality. Maintaining the carpets with regular cleaning and hard floors with regular maintenance extends the life of the surfaces, which saves the County time and expense in replacing these assets.

The work of the Custodian 1 is within our department's mission in preserving our facilities and contributing to the health of our building occupants.
