Overview

The UW Autism Center (UWAC) is devoted to supporting families affected by autism spectrum disorders through exceptional clinical services, innovative scientific research and high-quality training. UWAC is part of the Institute on Human Development and Disability at the University of Washington, UW Pediatrics and incorporates faculty and staff from the UW School of Medicine, College of Arts & Sciences, and College of Education.

The UW Autism Center (UWAC) in Tacoma is seeking a full-time Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). This role involves providing clinical services for individuals with autism spectrum disorders, including designing and implementing evidence-based interventions. The BCBA will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and support UWAC policies, manage complex clinical situations, and contribute to program development. The position reports to the ABA LAUNCH Program Director.

UWAC’s ABA LAUNCH Program is a clinic-based, short-term, comprehensive and intensive early intervention program. The BCBA will play a key role in advancing its mission.

Responsibilities

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical services to children aged 2-6 years with autism spectrum disorders, designing, implementing and modifying direct intervention and instructional programs using evidence-based interventions.
  • Clinical duties (80%)
  • Intake and assess clients
  • Design/implement individualized treatment plans and skills training for clients
  • Train and supervise behavioral technicians (BTs) who work with clients in the center-based program to implement treatment plans with fidelity
  • Provide weekly parent coaching to care providers of clients
  • Complete initial client evaluations, treatment plans, progress reports, discharge reports, and coordination of care with outside providers, referral letters, and other administrative responsibilities in a timely manner
  • Supervise undergraduate and graduate practicum students and volunteers and evaluate their performance
  • Meet assigned deadlines
  • Collaborate with other clinical team members in assessment and intervention and consult regarding diagnosis and intervention strategies as needed
  • Keep appropriate records of services provided and coordinate with the billing office and direct supervisor regarding services
  • Be on campus/in building during all operating hours of the ABA LAUNCH Program
  • The clinical work will be supervised by the director of the ABA LAUNCH Program, including regular meetings and annual reviews; additional on-site support may be provided as needed

Programmatic Duties (20%)

  • Participate in community activities and events
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and other meetings as necessary
  • Complete paperwork within required time frame
  • Interface with University of Washington Tacoma and Seattle staff, faculty, departments, and students to provide services, support and training when applicable
  • Provide consultation to community providers to develop continuity in care for the patient and family, as needed
  • Perform related duties as required
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in education or related field, plus 2-3 years of experience working with children, adolescents, and/or adults diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders
  • Experience teaching and designing programs for students with autism spectrum disorders, including collaboration with general education teachers, school administrators, related services personnel and outside community providers
  • Licensure and certification, if appropriate to the field (e.g., LBA – Licensed Behavior Analyst, BCBA – Board Certified Behavior Analyst)
