The Fractional CFO serves as a senior financial leader and strategic partner to the CEO. This role partners closely to strengthen financial performance, support data‑driven decision‑making, and guide the organization’s long‑term growth and sustainability.

This position is anticipated at 10 hours per week, with seasonality adjustments up to 20 hours per week.

Responsibilities Strategic Financial Leadership
  • Serve as the CEO’s primary financial thought partner, translating financial data into clear, actionable insights.
  • Advise on financial implications of strategic initiatives, growth opportunities, and operational changes.
  • Develop and maintain multi‑year financial models and scenario analyses.
Financial Planning and Analysis
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and long‑range planning processes.
  • Lead rolling forecasts and variance analysis with clear explanations and recommendations.
  • Ensure financial information supports timely, informed executive decision‑making.
Cash Flow, Risk, and Sustainability
  • Proactively manage and forecast cash flow, liquidity, and reserves.
  • Identify financial, operational, and reimbursement risks early and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Advise on capital planning, major expenditures, and mitigating financial risk through contract analysis.
Oversight & Governance
  • Provide high‑level oversight of accounting functions performed by the Sr. Accountant (without duplicating operational work).
  • Ensure appropriate internal controls, financial policies, and reporting standards are in place.
  • Support audits, external financial relationships, and stakeholders as needed.
Reporting & Communication
  • Prepare concise, CEO‑ and board‑level financial dashboards and narratives.
  • Present financial performance and outlook to leadership and board audiences as requested.
  • Ensure financial information is understandable, accurate, and aligned with organizational priorities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must have advanced knowledge of financial management, accounting principles (GAAP), and internal controls.
  • Must have advanced knowledge of strategic financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting methodologies.
  • Must have advanced knowledge of cash flow management and working capital optimization.
  • Must be a strategic thinker with the ability to translate financial data into actionable business insights.
  • Must possess executive‑level communication and presentation skills for board, shareholders, and senior leadership.
  • Must possess advanced knowledge of financial modeling, budget development, and variance analysis.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with all employees and vendors.
  • Must be able to handle highly confidential information with discretion.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel (including lookups and pivot tables), Outlook, Teams, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Must have the ability to work well under pressure, handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines; must have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain professional, productive, and courteous interactions with PNW employees and providers.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
  • 8–10 years of progressive financial leadership experience including senior‑level responsibility.
Preferred Requirements
  • CPA, MBA, MHA, or equivalent advanced credential.
  • Experience serving as a CFO or Fractional CFO within a healthcare organization.
  • Experience with provider compensation models and productivity metrics (e.g., RVUs).
