Responsibilities
  • This is a temporary position for the  school year only or until the employee returns from his or her leave, whichever occurs first. The anticipated duration of the leave of absence is January 6, 2026 - April 22, 2026.
  • This position provides one-on-one assistance to an assigned student with a disability in all school activities and day-to-day needs during the school day; assists a certificated teacher with instructional and non-instructional activities for the assigned student and other classroom students as time permits.
  • This position requires completion and attaining of the state mandated General Para educator Certificate. The Para educator Certificate Program offers statewide standards-based training for all para educator/Education Support Professionals (ESP), and supports a career growth ladder for those who wish to advance their career as a para educator or pursue a teaching profession.
  • Staff will be required to complete 28 hours of training on the Fundamental Course of Study provided by the district. The first two days of FCS training will be required to be completed within four months of the date of hire, and the second two days within six months of the date of hire, or by September 1 of the next school year.

    The general certificate is then earned by a para educator who completes ten days (70 clock hours) of professional development training.
  • Examples Of Duties
  • This position assists a certificated teacher with instructional and personal care needs for students with a broad range of disabilities, including medically fragile, orthopedically impaired, developmental, physical, and/or behavioral. The position provides academic interventions and may include assisting students with activities of daily living.
  • Essential Job Functions:

    Provides instruction to students individually or in small groups, may implement lesson/activity, assist students with sensory or physical handicaps, promote a safe environment, may perform vocational training, and may assist with job hunting skills and job applications.
  • Instructs on self-care activities; may provide diapering/toileting assistance, feeding, dressing, toileting, and related supports; monitors safety; may administer and log medications as assigned, under supervision.
  • Supervises students during recess/lunch; may supervise in locker/shower/restrooms; assists with bus loading/unloading; may transport students; communicates with parents/guardians and staff; maintains student records and data toward IEP goals and behavioral/grooming plans.
  • Adjusts position of students with physical disabilities; may implement occupational/physical therapy per instructions; uses basic sign language; ensures student safety.
  • Prep and serve meals; maintain dining areas; assist with field trips and related activities as needed.
  • Models positive behavior, corrects inappropriate behavior, and assists in classroom management.
  • Assists in adapting materials, administering standardized tests, and using adaptive equipment and technology to meet needs of students with disabilities.
  • Participates in department meetings; coordinates with staff on student information and progress.
  • May use adaptive equipment, troubleshoot equipment, schedule student use, and supervise in other settings as assigned.
  • Maintains regular attendance and adheres to district policies on conduct and tardiness.

  • Clerical assistance, duplicates materials, and paperwork.
  • Supervises students during teacher breaks.
  • Performs related duties as assigned; may work in more than one classroom.
