Position Summary
Performs a variety of skilled print production functions for Pierce County Library System; operates and maintains printing/bindery/high-speed digital press equipment; prepares equipment to print; and performs other related duties as assigned.
Essential Functions
Class specifications describe the range of duties performed; not all duties are reflected.
Responsibilities include:
- Delivers high-quality, customer-focused services.
- Prepares equipment to print materials, including occasional maintenance; oversees maintenance by outside vendors.
- Collaborates with customers and vendors to order production materials per project specifications.
- Operates printing production equipment, including high-speed digital presses and vinyl cutter.
- Operates bindery equipment (electric paper cutter, folder).
- Maintains, adjusts, and repairs Library production, printing, and bindery equipment; follows a regular maintenance schedule; outsources and coordinates repairs as needed.
- Supports the COM work order system (PSP), keeps order/store items up to date, and coordinates with IT and vendors for software updates.
- Under direction, orders departmental supplies and assists with coordinating photo and video shoots.
- Organizes, assembles, and distributes collateral and public event materials to Library locations and other sites.
- Performs general clerical duties as needed.
- Assists in the production and installation of Library signage as required.
- Demonstrates punctuality and regular attendance.
- Raises matters of public concern regarding waste, inefficiency, corruption, discrimination, and safety to Library Management.
- Accurately communicates the Library’s policies to members of the public in job-related contacts.
- Positively reflects Pierce County Library’s mission, vision, and values to the public and staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Minimum Requirements (Education, License or Certifications):
High School Diploma or equivalent, plus two years of training from an accredited technical or trade school specializing in printing, and three years of printing and bindery experience in a commercial or in-plant environment; or any combination of education and experience providing the required knowledge and skills.
- A valid Washington State Driver’s License is required.
- Must pass criminal background screening prior to hire.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends on a rotating schedule and adapt to schedule changes.
Professional Capabilities
Producing a variety of printed materials; prioritizing projects for timely production and distribution; blending ink colors and preparing materials for printing; operating and maintaining printing and bindery equipment; using computers and Windows-based software.
Technology Requirements
Required:
- Ability to navigate basic electronic record creation and storage (timecard/HRIS, performance reviews, network drive storage).
- Use of basic office equipment (PC, printer, phone, etc.).
- Basic keyboard and alpha/numeric data entry; basic Windows navigation and printing capabilities.
- Basic web navigation and applications; intermediate MS Office Suite skills (Outlook, Word, Excel).
Physical and Environmental Conditions
Work is conducted in a normal office setting with standard safety practices. Occasional light lifting up to 35 pounds; extended sitting/standing; walking, bending, reaching. May lift or push up to 50 pounds with assistance. Work may occur in a library environment with regular public contact.
