OverviewThe CDL B - Ice Cream Delivery Driver is responsible for completing assigned duties to ensure customer, team member, and vendor satisfaction. This role performs daily inspections on trucks, reports truck operating conditions, and maintains the vehicle in a safe and professional state. The driver logs are maintained according to federal motor carrier regulations, and safety policies (FMCSA, FSMA, OSHA) are promoted and followed.
This position supports the distribution of dairy-related products.
- Achieve assigned goals in distribution, safety, quality, performance, and cost.
- Load, transport, and deliver frozen ice cream products directly to retail customers using tractor-trailer and/or straight truck; act as the company’s front-line representative to build and maintain customer relationships.
- Work in freezing temperatures as low as
-10°F while handling, stocking, and organizing ice cream inventory in refrigerated environments; maintain physical endurance in extreme cold. - Maintain compliance with dairy distribution regulations and food safety protocols; ensure proper temperature control and sanitation throughout the cold chain.
- Provide superior customer service through timely and accurate delivery; act as liaison, resolve customer concerns, and provide information to supervisory staff when needed.
- Operate tractor-trailer and/or straight truck in compliance with all DOT regulations.
- Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment.
- Maintain accurate HOS records on electronic logging devices (ELD).
- Notify others of mechanical malfunctions to increase productivity and identify areas for resolution.
- Comply with GMPs, SOPs, and company policies, rules, and regulations.
- Cover staffing needs as assigned by supervisor.
- Ensure compliance with legal requirements for dairy distribution and safety on assigned shift; report concerns to supervisor.
- Work safely and report safety concerns promptly; take corrective actions as necessary.
- Report food safety problems and support SQF by maintaining food safety and food quality.
- Ensure direct reports assigned duties are covered during planned and unplanned absence, acting as backup as necessary.
- Keep work areas sanitary and adhere to sanitation practices.
- Communicate effectively between shifts and with other departments.
- All other duties as assigned by leadership.
- Apply basic to complex mathematical concepts (adding, counting, subtracting, multiplying, dividing) and understand weights and measures for job tasks.
- Read, write, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform job functions.
- Understand the company's mission, purpose, goals, and your role in achieving them.
- Operate facility equipment as required in the assigned area.
- Satisfactorily complete all company training requirements.
- Interpret company documents, literature, and UPC/code information.
- Minimum of 1 year driving experience with CDL-B/A with Air Brake and an excellent driving history.
- Must be able to drive automatic straight trucks.
- Report to work at scheduled times and communicate tardiness and absences with the assigned Supervisor/Manager before the occurrence.
- Come to work in a condition to work and be well-groomed, dressed in business- and position-appropriate attire (GMP dress code).
- Comply with performance criteria and standards of conduct as described in company policy and handbook.
- Maintain a safe work environment and promptly report safety concerns.
- Complete all assigned tasks and responsibilities as directed.
- Morning, afternoon, and early evening availability Monday – Friday with weekend availability as needed based on business needs.
- Requests to be scheduled off for a specific day require advance notification and approval by the Supervisor/Manager.
- Salary:
Must stay within daily and weekly HOS regulations.
