Laboratory Animal Caretaker, SG

Overview

Laboratory Animal Caretakers handle, treat and observe animals used in research. They sanitize, organize, and maintain animal cages and equipment by operating cage washers, tunnel washers, and autoclaves. They sanitize corridors and support areas to promote animal health and welfare and to comply with policies and regulations. They monitor environmental parameters and equipment and maintain records by collecting and recording data to facilitate management of the facility.

They administer treatments, euthanize animals, and provide assistance during nonroutine husbandry practices under the direction of supervisors and/or clinical staff. They communicate with their supervisors and/or clinical staff to report issues with research animals and their environment and receive instructions concerning handling and treatment of animals relative to specific experiments. They perform routine maintenance and ensure proper operation of equipment and machinery in cage wash.

There are no minimum education or experience qualifications.

Schedule based on a 40 hour work week. 7:00am-3:30pm rotating pass days, weekends, and holidays. Located in Weiskotten Hall.
