Position: Laboratory Animal Caretaker, SG005
Location: City of Syracuse

Job Summary:

Laboratory Animal Caretakers handle, treat and observe animals used in research. They handle laboratory animals and observe them to detect signs of disease. They sanitize, organize, and maintain animal cages and equipment by operating cage washer, tunnel washer, and autoclaves. Sanitize corridors and support areas using appropriate techniques to promote animal health and welfare and to comply with policies and regulations.

Perform routine maintenance and ensure proper operation of equipment and machinery in cage wash. Incumbents communicate with their supervisors and/or clinical staff to report issues with the research animals and their environment and receive instructions concerning the handling and treatment of animals relative to specific experiments. They monitor environmental parameters and equipment in accordance with standardized criteria. Maintain records by collecting and recording data to facilitate management of the facility.

They administer treatments, euthanize animals, and provide assistance during nonroutine husbandry practices under the direction of the supervisors and/or clinical staff.

Minimum Qualifications
  • There are no minimum education or experience qualifications.
Work Days

Schedule based on a 40 hour work week. 7:00am-3:30pm rotating pass days, weekends, and holidays. Located in Weiskotten Hall.
