Position Summary
The Manufacturing Technician Apprentice is an entry-level developmental role designed to build technical skills in industrial manufacturing within Amcor’s production environment. Through structured on-the-job training and formal classroom education provided in partnership with MACNY under the New York State Apprenticeship Program, the apprentice will learn the core competencies of the Industrial Manufacturing Technician occupation. The apprentice will rotate through key technical areas including Mold Technician, Automation Technician, and Equipment Maintenance to gain a comprehensive understanding of manufacturing processes, equipment setup, troubleshooting, quality standards, safety protocols, and preventive maintenance.
Continuous learning is required, and participation in all MACNY apprenticeship coursework is mandatory for program completion.
Assist and learn from skilled team members in daily tasks and develop proficiency in machine setup, mold changes, adjustments, and troubleshooting.
- Build foundational knowledge in industrial manufacturing technologies such as thermoforming and molding processes, automation systems and robotics, machine sensors, actuators, control systems, mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, and CMMS.
- Develop competencies aligned with NYS Industrial Manufacturing Technician Apprenticeship standards.
- Follow all Amcor safety requirements and participate in safety programs; apply Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and machine guarding concepts; maintain a clean, organized workspace per 5S and safety standards.
- Attend and complete MACNY NY State Apprenticeship Program instruction, including scheduled coursework, testing, skill evaluations, required study hours, and maintaining good academic standing.
- Maintain maintenance logs, inspection reports, and work orders in the CMMS; follow safety procedures including LOTO and PPE; support ISO, quality, environmental and safety standards; maintain safe work spaces.
- Communicate equipment and facility issues to senior technicians and supervisors; work with production teams to address equipment concerns; support continuous improvement programs including 5S, lean manufacturing, and process enhancements; engage in skill-building and cross-training.

- Strong mechanical interest and aptitude; ability to follow instructions, learn new skills, and work in a team environment
- Commitment to full participation in classroom and on-the-job training
- Basic computer skills for training, documentation, and communication
High school diploma or GED
Preferred (but Not Required)- Prior exposure to manufacturing, trade work, or technical coursework
- Experience with hand tools, equipment operation, or technical problem-solving
- Interest in long-term career growth in industrial manufacturing, maintenance, or automation
