Job Title

MACHINE OPERATOR/WAREHOUSE WORKER at Murphy and Nolan, Inc.

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Warehouse Manager and as a member of the operations team, you will operate industrial cutting equipment (saws and/or lathe) to cut metal materials as requested and perform miscellaneous duties as assigned. You will receive incoming inventory, package products for shipment to ensure error‑free packaging, efficient loading/unloading, and accurate product inventory. You will verify and keep records on incoming and outgoing inventory.

This position is classified as a safety‑sensitive position due to the work environment and equipment trained and used by staff. Regular shift 9 am‑6:30 pm Monday through Thursday. Friday 6 am‑2:30 pm. Initial training on day shift Monday‑Friday.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Operate industrial cutting equipment (saw and/or lathe) to cut materials as requested and perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
  • Unload incoming trucks and move products to proper staging areas using a forklift, pallet jack, or crane.
  • Receive incoming materials and compare information on packing slip with purchase orders, invoices, or other documents to verify accuracy of shipment.
  • Prepare orders for shipment by retrieving inventory and packaging appropriately for damage‑free delivery.
  • Maintain a neat and clean work area by sweeping floors, disposing of cardboard, banding, or packing materials, and removing debris.
  • Perform related duties as requested to meet department and/or business objectives.
  • After training, use equipment to accurately measure materials, color‑code, catalog, log inventory, and put product away.
  • May operate industrial cutting equipment after training.
  • Move delivery trucks within the yard and/or operate a Non‑CDL F450 truck for delivery to meet production needs.
  • Implement facility closure tasks at end of identified shift.
  • Regular and reliable on‑site attendance is a requirement of employment.
Qualifications & Standards
  • High School Diploma or high school equivalent (strongly preferred).
  • Mathematical ability to sort, check, count, measure, and verify numbers and/or product shipped or received.
  • Demonstrated computer skills in the use of company ERP system.
  • Ability to operate material‑handling equipment after training.
  • Ability to read and write.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork, perform math calculations, and perform computer data entry.
  • Valid NY State Class B driver’s license and/or CDL endorsement (a plus, for back‑up driving).
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.
Accountabilities
  • Contribute to the overall success of the company by performing all assigned duties in a professional, timely, and accurate manner.
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures as set forth in the Employee Handbook, Safety Policies, and any local/regional/state/national regulations.
Equipment, Machines & Software Used
  • Operate industrial fork trucks/lifts, overhead crane, back saw, computer to send/receive email, post information to a database, and perform basic email and data entry in ERP system.
  • Accurately read calipers and measuring instruments to determine inventory amounts and customer requirements. With training, ability to cut machinery (saw and/or lathe).
  • Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment including safety shoes, gloves, and safety glasses when performing certain job duties.
  • Eligible staff with NYS CDL or Class B license and training may drive company commercial vehicles.
Mental & Visual Requirements
  • Moderate mental and visual attention required for performing manual work, machine operations, setups, inspections, and adjustments that require frequent decisions to detect and adjust for variance from proper operation.
  • May be required to operate equipment in congested areas involving considerable variety of movement.
