Custodian weekdays, first shift

Custodian I: full-time, weekdays, first shift

STARTING PAY RANGE: $16.00 to $17.00 per hour

SCHEDULE: Full-time, weekdays, second shift

SUMMARY: Perform cleaning and sanitation and general upkeep tasks in and around a large classroom building.

QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of the methods, materials, equipment and safety procedures commonly used in custodial work. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions. High school diploma/GED. Ability to lift 50 pounds or more occasionally and perform a variety of routine custodial tasks which include bending, climbing and walking. Must be accessible by phone on 24-hour call and available to answer after-hours alarm calls.

A current NYS driver license with a clean driving record for the previous 18 months is very helpful but not required.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Scrub, mop, wax, sweep, polish or vacuum classrooms, offices and hallways as appropriate on a daily basis. Shampoo carpets when needed.
• Dust and polish furniture and woodwork, and wash windows and blinds as needed. Wash and sanitize toilets, washrooms, and bathroom fixtures daily.
• Refill soap, toilet tissue and paper towel dispensers as needed. Collect and dispose of rubbish and recyclables daily.
• Periodically clean and wash high areas including ceiling light fixtures, room ventilation apparatus, walls, and wastebaskets. Paint walls and/or ceilings on an as‑needed basis.
• Move desks, chairs and other furniture and equipment occasionally as directed.
• Complete daily and monthly logs as required.
