Job DescriptionExercise judgment to plan and perform a wide variety of work related to machine repair and fabrication of parts.
Education and Experience- Advanced knowledge of machine repair and machine shop operations equivalent to 1 – 2 years practical trades training and previous work experience, that includes pipe fitting, burning and welding.
- At least 3 years additional practical experience, some of which includes electronic experience, is required.
- A valid driver’s license is required; the ability to drive both manual and automatic transmission vehicles is required.
- Must provide your own hand tools.

Responsibilities- Diagnose trouble, determine the extent of replacements or adjustments needed and make general and major repairs.
- Prepare all related parts for installation/repair of a variety of equipment including doors, motors, generators, fans, compressors, air conditioners, elevators, lawn and snow equipment, kitchen slicers, dishwashers, conveyors, garbage disposal, washing machines, floor buffers, vacuum cleaners, etc.
- Disconnect, connect and replace associated piping, including soldering and electric and gas welding.
- Perform complete greasing and lubricating programs according to specifications.
- Rebuild or fabricate new parts for shafts, railings, tools, etc.
- Assemble, set up, install and repair beds, furniture, laboratory and kitchen equipment, shelves, lockers, railings, etc.
- Rework vehicles and repair change-over salt boxes, plows, bucket truck, doors, frames and related parts.
- Work from schematic drawings, wire diagrams and specifications.
- Use a variety of materials including aluminum, steel, stainless steel, copper, brass, bronze, cast iron, drill rod, white metal, zinc diecast, plastics, rubber, bakelite, etc.
- Repair door closers and fabricate screens.
- Standing 65% – 90% of the shift.
- Frequent bending at the waist; able to bend to below the knee (50 – 80%).
- Frequent stooping and/or crouching (50% – 80% of shift).
- Frequent twisting and bending of head, neck, and torso (75 – 95%).
- Full range of arm movement (extension, twisting, and bending of arm and shoulder, reaching overhead, etc.) (50% – 95%).
- Visual and cognitive capability sufficient to read and interpret diagrams and blueprints, troubleshoot and diagnose problems and make repairs; maintain a NYS driver’s license.
- Wrist and finger dexterity sufficient to use and operate a variety of hand tools run wiring etc.
- Able to handle and operate power tools (e.g., drills, circular saw, hand snake).
- Repetitive arm movement (e.g., hammering).
- May need to work on a ladder, scaffolds, bucket truck, or other elevated heights.
- Able to drive vehicles with manual transmission.
- Able to climb up into and down from truck cab.
- Able to work in extreme heat or cold.
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Push/pull up to 100 lbs.
- May be exposed to strong odors, smoke, dust, grease and lubricants, chemicals, solvents.
Operate a variety of tools and equipment including electrical and/or mechanical power saws, grinders, presses, lathes, mills, sand blasters, cut‑off saws, drill presses, shears, power‑forming brakes, forming rollers, power punch, iron workers, large core drills, acetylene torch, etc.
