Overview

Outpatient Administrative Specialist role at Upstate Medical University
, located in Cicero, NY.

Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical administrative support to the assigned ambulatory area.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly activity reports by compiling statistical data related to clinic services as needed.
  • Serve as a resource for providers and staff regarding referral and authorization processes.
  • Assist with patient check-in and check-out procedures, including registration activities such as entering and/or verifying demographic, insurance and financial information; generate routine forms and other documentation.
  • Manage EPIC Referral Work Queues (WQs).
  • Answer phones and prioritize incoming mail, faxes and correspondence.
  • Advise patients on insurance carrier requirements, including services not covered; obtain documentation and collect patient co-pays.
  • Apply understanding of prior authorization (ABN) needs and waiver of liability patient signatures.
  • Obtain insurance authorizations and referrals; manage denial processes in an accurate and efficient manner.
  • Accept assignments to other areas and perform additional administrative support duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate's degree and two (2) years of relevant patient financial/insurance services experience in a healthcare setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology and excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task in a high-volume setting; excellent customer service and strong computer skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of computer systems such as Epic, Word, Outlook, etc., and understanding of insurances and referrals.
  • Coordination of care / release of information skills.
Work Days

M-F; hours based on operating needs.
