Join Vera House, Inc. as a Therapist to provide comprehensive counseling services to survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Our mission is to deliver unconditional care and support to individuals and families through prevention and intervention services, fostering a culture of accountability, belonging, and autonomy.
POSITION SUMMARYIn this role, the Therapist will offer therapy sessions, immediate support, advocacy, and community resource navigation. Sessions can be scheduled weekly or after‑hours as required.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Assist clients in identifying, understanding, and navigating available community resources based on client needs.
- Provide immediate connection and support to clients as needed.
- Effectively manage challenging emotions while centering client needs.
- Collect, analyze, and report program outputs and outcomes data in a timely manner.
- Respond to the 24‑hour support line and participate in sexual assault call‑outs (may include after‑hours) in Onondaga County, as needed.
- Facilitate groups for those affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, or other violence.
- Maintain database and documentation consistent with Vera House practices.
- Ensure a warm and welcoming environment.
- Provide referrals and systems advocacy.
- Maintain strong professional boundaries, limited to professional relationships, and comply with all Vera House policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
- Adhere to Vera House’s mission and vision in all services.
- Master’s degree in social work, marriage and family therapy, mental health counseling, or related field (required). NYS License to practice preferred.
- One to three years of direct service experience preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of domestic and sexual violence, including elder abuse.
- Ability to work effectively with clients experiencing high levels of symptoms and safety concerns.
- Skilled in trauma‑informed service and de‑escalation techniques.
- Strong planning, organization, time‑management, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to develop positive, compassionate rapport with survivors of violence.
- Adept at navigating complex dynamics and demonstrating critical thinking.
- Demonstrate cultural humility with clients, coworkers, and community.
- Adaptability to self‑regulate through high‑intensity situations.
$28.00‑$35.00 per hour (Non‑Exempt, $54k‑$70k annually).
