Vocational Training Aide

Reports to: Vocational Training Specialist

Location: 6520 Basile Row, East Syracuse, NY 13057

Pay Rate: $18.50-$20.05

Schedule: Monday – Friday: 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Our focus is supporting individuals by ways of residential housing, mental health and clinical services, and immersing our participants in community engagement. Working closely with the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities and the Office of Mental Health, we support 27 housing locations and 3 administrative buildings.

We are looking for a proactive employee to provide administrative support to assist in the planning, implementation, and the direct instructional service to fulfill each participant’s individualized education plan in the area of janitorial services and/or food service.

• Assist trainer by providing individual and small group instruction to participants
• Monitor participants’ behavior to ensure safety and appropriate interactions
• Support participants with physical and medical needs
• Report participant progress to trainer, as needed
• Provide positive and constructive feedback to participants
• Assist with classroom/on-site management and organization
• Accept referrals from ACCES‑VR/CBVH/OPWDD (funding sources.)
• Evaluate participants’ employment interests, skills and potential utilizing the personal portfolio method
• Observe confidentiality and safeguards all participant related information
• Follow Agency standards and procedures
• Maintain compliance with applicable rules and regulations
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, as well as company policies
• Perform Other Duties as Assigned

High school diploma/GED plus 1 year of experience working with people with developmental disabilities or mental health diagnoses, required. Associate degree in a human services field, preferred.

Must have a valid NYS Driver License in accordance with the Agency Vehicle and Driving policy and transportation necessary to meet program needs. Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods and lift up to 20 pounds.
