Location: Rochester, New York
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Medical Surgical / Telemetry Registered Nurse to support a high-acuity complex care unit. This unit provides care for medical patients, orthopedic overflow, and long-term complex cases. The RN must be comfortable managing higher patient ratios, floating within skillset, and functioning in a fast-paced tertiary care environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver safe, high-quality nursing care to MS/Tele patients with complex medical and orthopedic needs.
- Manage telemetry monitoring and respond appropriately to cardiac rhythm changes.
- Administer medications, blood products, and IV therapies per protocol.
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments and document care accurately in the EMR.
- Utilize Rapid Response and Code Team protocols as needed.
- Provide care for patients with pacemakers (temporary and permanent).
- Manage central lines, PICC lines, peripheral IVs, and perform phlebotomy as required.
- Deliver respiratory support including HFNC, oxygen devices, and tracheostomy care.
- Provide wound care including wound vac management.
- Care for post-operative orthopedic and trauma patients, including total joint replacements.
- Float to other units within scope of practice as needed.
- Support charge responsibilities as required.
- Medical Surgical / Telemetry nursing
- Telemetry monitoring (on-unit)
- Rapid Response and Code Team participation
- Pacemaker management (temporary and permanent)
- Feeding tube care and management
- Blood product administration
- Central line and PICC line care/management
- Peripheral IV insertion and maintenance
- Phlebotomy
- Heparin protocols
- Orthopedic trauma and total joint replacements
- Surgical drain management
- Respiratory support: HFNC, nasal cannula, face masks, portable oxygen
- Tracheostomy care and management
- Isolation precautions
- Wound care and wound vac management
- Active New York State RN license (must be in hand - no exceptions)
- Minimum 2 years of recent MS/Tele experience
- Previous charge nurse experience required
- Experience managing patient ratios of 1:6
- Ability to safely manage 1:5-1:7 Med Surg patient ratios
- BLS certification required
- EPIC charting proficiency required
- Must be willing to float within skillset
- Weekend coverage required (every other weekend)
- Local candidates must reside outside a 75-mile radius
- Tertiary care hospital
- 500+ staffed beds
- High-acuity inpatient environment
