Job Description

The role of a Materials Technician involves providing critical materials testing and observation services on projects such as roadways, bridges, airports, large commercial developments, and remediation. This position will support local projects including a Costco and an upcoming project. The technician will perform field and/or laboratory testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials like soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel. The role requires documenting findings and results clearly, analyzing data to ensure accuracy, and communicating information to the Project Manager.

Responsibilities

+ Conduct field and laboratory testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials.

+ Ensure all procedures are carried out as per training and specified protocols.

+ Document findings and results clearly and comprehensively.

+ Perform basic data analysis to verify accuracy before reporting.

+ Communicate results and observations to the Project Manager and relevant personnel.

+ Maintain equipment and ensure proper calibration.

+ Possibly train lower-level technicians based on experience.

Essential Skills

+ 1-2 years of relevant field experience.

+

Experience with construction materials such as concrete and steel.

+ Proficient in compaction testing.

+ Ability to use a laptop computer and Microsoft Word and Excel.

+ Valid driver's license and ability to pass drug//MVR checks (THC is okay).

Additional

Skills & Qualifications

+ Engineering degrees are highly advantageous.

+ Track to obtain ACI Level I certification.

+ Experience in concrete inspection, soil sampling, and quality assurance.

+ Ability to read and understand geotechnical reports.

+ Driving capability for vehicles like a Ford F-150.

This is a field-based role with occasional laboratory work. The work environment offers opportunities for growth into geotechnical and environmental engineering careers. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Syracuse, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $26.00/hr.
