Find your superpower with the Graduate Development Program

National Grid’s Graduate Development Program (GDP) is a year‑long development program for recent college graduates who aspire to take on future leadership roles in a dynamic, ever‑changing industry. Graduates will shape the future of National Grid. Bringing fresh thinking, new perspectives, and exploring with energy, we’ll give you real responsibility and an opportunity to move with purpose from day one – putting the power to supercharge your career in your hands.

Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an in‑depth 3‑week in‑person Orientation which gives you exposure to all parts of the company, allows you to network with your Graduate cohort, GDP alumni, and senior leaders, and provides you with the opportunity to travel throughout our service territory in the northeast US. Following Orientation, you’ll begin working in full‑time position outlined below and take part in ongoing development activities including quarterly development sessions, active mentorship, and a Hackathon Project.

As an Associate Engineer in Telecommunications and Network Engineering, you’ll dive into the specification, design, and implementation of cutting‑edge solutions for our electric distribution and sub‑transmission systems. Your main responsibilities will include evaluating emerging technologies, participating in equipment selection, and designing end‑to‑end communication systems. Ready to innovate and make an impact? This role requires in‑office days for team collaboration, meetings, and training as needed. Your primary office for this position will be in Syracuse, NY. Role requirements are subject to change based on business needs.

What You’ll Do

In this role, you’ll be involved in a variety of tasks that will help you grow professionally. Here’s what you’ll be up to:

  • Engineering Tasks: Perform routine engineering work using standard techniques and procedures to carry out your tasks effectively.
  • Learning & Development: Complete assignments designed to build your professional knowledge and abilities while being guided by experienced engineers.
  • Resource Management: Execute instructions, plan and organize resources, and ensure that work is carried out efficiently and aligns with company policies.
  • Collaboration: Actively engage with our IT and third‑party communications partners to develop end‑to‑end communication solutions.
  • Professional Networking: Build and nurture relationships with industry peers and external influencers to stay updated on technical innovations and their potential benefits.
  • Storm Support: Assist with storm restoration efforts in addition to your regular job duties, helping to keep our systems running smoothly.
What You’ll Need
  • Bachelor or Master’s in Computer Network Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Network Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution
  • Graduated between May 2025 and June 2026
  • Ability to begin the National Grid Graduate Program on July 13, 2026
